The Supervisory Board of Salzgitter AG has made personnel decisions of great
importance in its regular meeting today. Prior to the meeting, Prof. Dr.
Wolfgang Leese put forward a request to relinquish his management of the Group
at an earlier date than originally planned.

Prof. Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann was therefore appointed to the position of new
Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board of Salzgitter AG
with effect from February 1, 2011, in the meeting.

At the same time, Mr. Burkhard Becker, formerly Chief Financial Officer of KHS
GmbH and Board member of Klöckner Werke AG, was appointed as a member of
Salzgitter AG's Executive Board and Prof. Dr. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann´s successor
responsible for corporate finance.

This seamless transition in respect of the position of CEO and a Board member
area of responsibility within Salzgitter AG was endorsed by Prof. Dr. Leese.
Accordingly, he will be withdrawing from Salzgitter AG's Executive Board in full
mutual agreement with effect from January 31, 2011.
