Austria’s first precast concrete company has been awarded CSC certification
Austria’s first precast concrete company has been awarded CSC certification The certification of three precast concrete plants marks the first application of the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) standard in Austria’s precast concrete industry. MABA Fertigteilindustrie GmbH, part of the Kirchdorfer Group, has achieved CSC Silver for its plants in Wöllersdorf, Gerasdorf and Grafendorf. Selected low-carbon concrete mixes have also been assessed under the CSC CO₂ Module, with Wöllersdorf and Gerasdorf achieving Level 3 and Grafendorf Level 2.

Wöllersdorf, Austria, October 2026. Sustainability certification is becoming increasingly relevant across the European construction and concrete industry as a means of providing transparent evidence of environmental performance and responsible sourcing. The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) standard provides a framework for assessing these aspects at production-site level and throughout the supply chain. With the certification of its three plants in Wöllersdorf, Gerasdorf and Grafendorf, MABA has now become the first Austrian precast concrete company to achieve CSC certification. All three sites were awarded CSC Silver.
The certification represents an important step for the application of the CSC system in Austria’s precast concrete sector. CSC assesses areas including management and responsible sourcing, environmental and climate performance, social and economic aspects, as well as the product value chain. For precast plants with their own fresh concrete production, the assessment also extends to key input materials such as cement, aggregates and reinforcing steel.
“The CSC certifications mark another step on our path towards making sustainability measurable. What matters to our customers is that claims about CO₂ performance are not simply promises, but can be backed up by data and independent verification. This provides planners and clients with a robust basis for their construction projects,” says Franz Buschmüller, Managing Director of MABA Fertigteilindustrie GmbH.
Additional assessment of concrete carbon performance
Beyond the certification of its production sites, MABA has used the voluntary CSC CO₂ Module to assess selected low-carbon concrete mixes. While CSC certification evaluates sustainability at site level, the additional module focuses specifically on the greenhouse gas emissions of the classified concrete mixes.
Their greenhouse gas potential per cubic metre is compared with the Austrian industry reference value for the respective compressive strength class. Level 3 represents at least 50 per cent lower greenhouse gas emissions compared with the relevant reference value, while Level 2 represents a reduction of at least 40 per cent. Wöllersdorf and Gerasdorf achieved Level 3, while Grafendorf reached Level 2.
The ratings apply exclusively to the assessed concrete mixes. They do not apply to all concrete produced at the respective plant or to the entire precast concrete product.
From site certification to transparent product data
Alongside certification at plant level, MABA is also expanding its environmental documentation at product level. Since 2026, the company has been using EMIDAT for life-cycle assessments and for preparing its own Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), documenting environmental and carbon data for its products.
“Reliable environmental data is becoming increasingly important to our customers. EMIDAT provides us with the basis to structure this data and document it transparently through our own EPDs,” Buschmüller adds.
CSC certification complements MABA’s existing sustainability activities. In early 2026, the company received an EcoVadis Silver rating for the second time. While EcoVadis assesses sustainability management and the supply chain, CSC focuses on individual production sites. The additional CO₂ Module evaluates the carbon performance of selected concrete mixes against defined industry reference values.
MABA is part of the Kirchdorfer Group, which operates in the cement, raw materials, precast concrete and road safety sectors.
