Finding common ground in improvised music

How do musicians take decisions in real time, and why does one and the same composition sound different depending on the ensemble that performs it? Combining musical practice and arts-based research, a fundamental research project is investigating how shared language, leadership, and social dynamics shape improvisational music. Managed by Mark Holub, the project revolves around two ensembles in Austria and the United Kingdom.
