Why the liver deteriorates with age

With age, the performance of the liver and other organs declines even in healthy individuals. Among the culprits are latent, chronic inflammatory reactions. A Vienna-based research group has now identified components of intestinal bacteria in the blood as being major agents in this age-associated phenomenon.
