In 15th- and 16th-century paintings, pointing gestures were frequently used to direct the viewer's eyes and attention. Up until now, no-one knew whether these gestures actually achieved their goal. Using sophisticated eye-tracking technology, art historian Temenuzhka Dimova conducted empirical tests to verify this assumption.
