CREE welcomes leading Czech construction firm SYNER as license partner
Following recent new partners in France, Italy and more, SYNER joins the CREE Buildings family to accelerate sustainable construction in the Czech Republic.
Dornbirn (Austria), April 25, 2024 – Due to the proximity and historical links with Austria, CREE has been looking for a strong player in the Czech Republic. As a pioneering family-run business with a sustainable vision, SYNER is a natural fit. An expert in civic, industrial and sports buildings, the firm already uses a high degree of prefabrication and industrialization – key criteria for CREE projects. They are now looking to leverage their decades of experience to accelerate the transition to more sustainable construction in the country.
After a visit to the headquarters in 2023, CREE’s quality and way of working resonated with SYNER and confirmed the synergies. “We have over 30 years of rich experience in the conventional construction industry, yet in the segment of hybrid constructions we are at the very beginning, but at the same time we know that we have an excellent starting position, and we want to gain a huge lead over the competition,” states Lukáš Urban, Member of the Board of Directors of SYNER Group.
Front-runners with an innovative outlook
From CREE’s perspective, it was not only SYNER’s strong track record but their collaborative and innovative mindset which make them a perfect fit. With a partner like SYNER the system can be adapted to the local market, and thus help further development across the global CREE Network while demonstrating successful implementation in the region.
“SYNER is a well-established player in their market who does not accept the status quo but wants to be a front-runner in a new way of building,” notes CREE’s Managing Director, Rainer Strauch. “They strive for large-volume projects, they think long-term, and are willing to share their knowledge.”
The increase in construction costs in Prague (49% between 2020 and 2023) indicate a high demand and low supply scenario, something SYNER aims to address through increased productivity. According to Strauch, their embrace of the CREE System for real estate developments suggests expectations of higher margins and rates of return while still acting sustainably and responsibly.
Revolutionizing sustainable Czech construction
As elsewhere, there is increasing market pressure to ensure sustainability and efficiency while building with lasting quality. For this, CREE construction methods offer a ready-made solution that can be used immediately. And as a company known for introducing innovative elements, SYNER is well-placed to do so in their market.
“We want to build sustainably and at competitive prices,” says SYNER Group’s Lukáš Urban. “CREE’s sustainable approach and timber-hybrid solution are completely in line with our corporate philosophy. Our goal is responsible construction for investors and future users of buildings, as well as towards the environment and society. That's why we decided to integrate this system into our wider portfolio.”
Specifically, SYNER sees CREE’s reduction of materials, minimal waste, and reduced carbon footprint as exciting elements to expand in their active markets. The fact that they already use pre-fabrication is a further commonality which will enable swift integration of CREE methods.
“Cooperation with CREE opens the way for the future of modern construction, which we want to follow,” concludes Urban. “Reducing the carbon footprint in construction is a priority for us, and this system will allow us to build large projects simply and quickly.”
Future prospects and expansion
SYNER is aiming with CREE to go beyond the four stories currently permitted in Czechia. After signing up as a license partner, there are already firm plans for implementation at all construction stages, says Urban: “We see it as much more effective when the investor thinks about using CREE at the very beginning of a project, the stage which can present the most benefits. We already want to consider this principle in our own developer's housing project, where part of the houses would be realized using the conventional method and the next phase of construction already using the CREE System.”
The Czech Republic's position as a central European country with historic ties to Eastern Europe positions SYNER not just as a partner for local market entry but also as a potential gateway to broader Eastern European markets. This bigger picture is something CREE founder Hubert Rhomberg always has firmly in mind: “After recent partners in France and Italy, with the addition of SYNER, CREE is now spreading across Europe in all directions. We have a stringent selection process and identified them as a market champion who wants to use CREE to improve the sustainable credentials of their buildings. Their level of energy and professionalism will be key in pursuing the CREE way in the sustainable development of the Czech market.”
SYNER’s Lukáš Urban is equally optimistic about the prospects going forward: “I hope and wish that in 5 years we will be able to talk about several successful references and have at least 50,000 m2 built using the CREE System.“
