Speedtalk, discussions and other creative ideas on the first
anniversary of the association of social environment

On the 25th of April the association of social environment will
celebrate their first anniversary. This day will be celebrated once a
year on the last Friday of the month of April on which diversity and
positive co-existence will be taking over the spotlight.
The day of social environment is carried out by a very big
association of organizations and institutions, who all have the
common interest of equal treatment.

Building a positive social environment

"We want to bring attention to social co-existence and to the social
environment in our country with the day of social environment. We
want to diversify daily routines, change roles and turn the world
around upside down, so we can prove: More is possible, than what we
view as normal. Things can change, they can be made better", explain
the partners of the association of social environment.

Creative ideas

There will be nationwide projects taking place on the day of social
environment: Whether it's school children teaching teachers their
skills, associations or clubs switching offices, or even book stores
hanging up a world map upside down, it's about doing things
differently, in a positive way, in a way that promotes diversity and
life "different than usual".

Join the change! Social environment-speedtalk

A very special project will take place on the Mariahilfer Street in
Vienna. Fellow citizens will do exactly what is typical for an
inclusive society: Sitting on two rows of chairs facing each other,
people will talk about how they want to live together. Then they move
to the next seat and listen to another person. There will also be
speed talks taking place in cafés and other cities.

Ministry for equality and diversity

On the evening of the day of social environment an open forum will be
organized, discussing the next step in the debate about integration,
rights, opportunities and diversty: Mainstreaming of diversity and
equality policies. Will separate ministries for women, equal
treatment and integration solve our problems? Or should there only be
one ministry for equality and diversity? What does a future-oriented
path to a better social environment look like?

Day of social environment

The day of social environment is a project of the association of
social environment, an association of many different assemblies and
institutions - from the chamber of labour to "Volkshilfe" (a welfare
association dedicated to helping people in need), from the house of
integration to the Vienna community college, from "SOS Mitmensch" (a
NGO fighting for equal rights) to the intercultural centre, from
asylum coordination to the Presseclub Concordia (overseeing freedom
of speech and press).

"We have a specific goal: to improve the social environment in
Austria, so that the existing diversity of lives and world views can
be acknowledged and appreciated.
The already existing pluralism in Austria must become part of the
society's self-image", say the partners of the association in
conclusion.
