During the first nine months of the business year 2008/09 the voestalpine Group
has been able to achieve increases in revenue and earnings over the previous
year in spite of the ongoing tightening in the global economy since last autumn.
Although these figures represent the company´s best-ever 9-month operating
result, this development was driven by an excellent business performance in the
first half year, whereas in the 3rd quarter significant impacts from the global
financial crisis were clearly noticeable.
The earnings of the 3rd fiscal quarter 2008/09 moreover were significantly
influenced by exceptional write downs in an amount of EUR 110 m, forthcoming
from globally fast declining prices of raw materials in general and alloys in
particular.
