In a letter dated 1 October 2008, Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. S.C.A. (Luxemburg,
Luxemburg) informed Arcandor AG (Essen, Germany) about the following in
accordance with section 21 para. 1 WpHG:

Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. KGaA (Cologne, Germany), on 30 September 2008, has
exceeded the thresholds of 3%, 5%, 10% and 15% of the voting rights in Arcandor
AG (Essen, Germany) and on that day holds 15.95% (36,716,900 voting rights).

Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. S.C.A. (Luxemburg, Luxemburg), on 30 September 2008,
has exceeded the thresholds of 3%, 5%, 10% and 15% of the voting rights in
Arcandor AG and on that day holds 15.95% (36,716,900 voting rights). Pursuant to
section 22 para. 1 sent. 1 no. 1 WpHG all of these voting rights are attributed
to Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. S.C.A. (Luxemburg, Luxemburg) through Sal.
Oppenheim jr. & Cie. KGaA (Cologne, Germany).
