HealthGovMatters Conference on May 16, 2012 in Brussels
Brussels/Vienna (OTS) - The Health Governance Matters Conference
on the topic "How to govern medical knowledge, converging
technologies, and neurological disorders" will take place on May 16,
2012 in the European Parliament in Brussels. The conference will
inform policy-makers, representatives of patient organisations,
scientists, and other relevant stakeholders about the results of
HealthGovMatters, a three-year FP7 'Science in Society' research
project; it will feature prominent speakers from science and civil
society.
The conference will focus on the production and governance of
medical knowledge and their implications for science, policy and
health care, as well as for patients and their families, in the field
of neurological disorders - specifically as regards epilepsy and
mitochondrial disease.
Issues to be addressed during the conference will include:
- Patient/family participation in the production and governance of
medical knowledge
- Converging technologies and clinical realities
- Scientisation of medical knowledge & public representations of
neurological disorders
- Health identities, participatory governance initiatives.
The conference will both showcase the scientific findings of three
case studies conducted in Austria, Germany and the UK, and present
policy recommendations drawing on the expertise and experience of the
involved researchers. The conference will provide a platform for
knowledge exchange and debate. It will address an audience of
European, national and local policy-makers, scientists and other
relevant stakeholders, including representatives of self-help groups,
ethics commissions, patient organisations, journalists and patients.

The HealthGovMatters conference is co-organised by the ICCR
Foundation and hosted by Angelika Werthmann, non-attached Member of
the European Parliament and Rapporteur for the "Health for Growth
Programme 2014-2020".
