Cargill Statement - Update on Sorbitol Situation in Italy

Cobham, England (ots/PRNewswire) -

Following stories in today's media, Cargill wishes to clarify that
the Italian Ministry of Health declared on 28 March 2012 that it was
not sorbitol powder but sodium nitrite which caused the unexpected
death in Puglia, South Italy on the 24th March 2012.

Cargill does not produce or use sodium nitrite at its starches and
sweeteners plants.

The Italian authorities are now investigating how the sodium
nitrite entered the rest of the supply chain.
