Au / Wädenswil (euro adhoc) - 18 April 2011 - Von Roll Holding AG, one of
Switzerland's longest established industrial companies, has received a large
order of several power transformers from US-based Bechtel. Von Roll´s power
transformers will be applied for the prestigious Ivanpah Solar Electric
Generating Facility in California, USA. The project involves manufacturing and
delivery of several 12 MVA and 150 MVA power transformers. The first
transformers will be delivered in the second half of 2011.
Bechtel provides engineering, procurement and construction services for the
Ivanpah solar facility. Privately owned with headquarters in San Francisco, the
company has offices around the world and around 50,000 employees. In 2009, it
had revenues of USD 30.8 billion. In addition to energy, Bechtel´s diverse
portfolio encompasses transportation, communications, mining, oil and gas, and
government services.
The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Facility is the world´s largest
solar-thermal power plant project currently under construction. The solar
facility is located in the Mojave desert in California, 40 miles southwest of
Las Vegas, USA. It will double the amount of commercial solar thermal
electricity produced in the USA today. The power produced by Ivanpah, 370 MW of
clean renewable energy, will be able to generate electricity for more than
140,000 homes, displacing around 400,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per
year. Construction of the complex, consisting of three separate solar thermal
plants, has started in October 2010. The first plant is planned to be connected
to the electrical grid in mid-2012.
