Freiburg (euro adhoc) - Freiburg, 22.7.2008 - Solar modules manufactured by
Solar-Fabrik AG have been installed in what is currently the largest solar
installation in Greece. This freestanding installation with an output of 400 kW
is located in Sidirokastron, a town 80 km north-east of Thessaloniki. The
complete plant was supplied by Yoku Technology GmbH, an important business
partner of Solar-Fabrik AG.
"This plant is currently the largest photovoltaic plant in the whole of Greece,"
explains Gert Schmid, sales manager of Solar-Fabrik AG. "Though an output of 400
kW is not very high by German standards, it is extraordinarily high for Greece.
The installation will have a strong impact and will attract further projects."
Greece is one of the world´s largest growth markets. The Greek government is
planning to install photovoltaic plants with a total output of 700 MW by 2010.
Currently, applications have been made for plants with a total output of even
3,750 MW. Market breakthrough is expected by 2009.
Jürgen Franke, CEO of Yoku Technology GmbH, expects the Greek market to grow
strongly as soon as the approval procedures have become easier and quicker. "We
must demonstrate the performance of the new technology, particularly with pilot
projects like these. That is why we are using exclusively top quality modules
manufactured by Solar-Fabrik AG for these projects. Greek plant operators have
great confidence in solar modules which are "Made in Germany."
Greece offers excellent starting conditions for operators of solar
installations, with a feed-in tariff of 40-50 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh),
based on the size of the plant and the region. In addition, investment grants of
40% of the installation costs are available. Thanks to an irradiation of
1,300-1,700 kWh per square meter per year, plant yields of 1,400 kWh per kWp can
be achieved, about 45% more than in Germany.
