Vortrag, Bob L. Sturm, Ph.D.: Sparse approximation in signal processing and machine learning
Wien (OTS) - I provide a broad overview of sparse approximation, and
a variety of its applications to signal processing and machine
learning with a focus on sound and music. In one sense, sparse
approximation allows a flexibility in the decomposition of signals.
One can define a dictionary of several types of functions with which
to linearly express any signal. This has application in, for example,
compression, visualization, and source separation. In another sense,
sparse approximation allows a flexibility in the description of
signals. This technique has applications in, for example, music
transcription, source identification, and music genre recognition.
Finally, I end with a public service announcement of reproducible
research.
